Devon Conway and Shivam Dube were the stars with the bat, and both left-handers scored a half-century each. After losing Ruturaj Gaikwad (3) early, Conway and Ajinkya Rahane (37) added a 74-run second-wicket partnership. Then, Dube joined in, and CSK had an 80-run stand for the third wicket off just 43 balls. Conway made 83 off 45, with six maximums and six fours, while Dube scored a 27-ball 52, including five sixes and two fours. CSK made the second-biggest total of the ongoing tournament.

Chasing the score, RCB had a horrible start and lost two wickets for just 16 runs. Virat Kohli (6) and Mahipal Lomror (0) got out cheaply. But then, Glenn Maxwell and skipper Faf du Plessis took the game away from the four-time champion. Both batters scored fifty and added 126 runs from 61 balls. It looked like the RCB would chase down the score easily.

But then, CSK bowlers provided some important breakthroughs and pulled Chennai back in the game. MS Dhoni also lauded the young bowlers after the game and said that it is very difficult to perform in such a pressured environment. He said, 

“It is a difficult one for the youngsters, especially at this time of the year with the dew around. But they are working hard. Bravo is one of the specialists. Under him, the bowlers will gain confidence. I keep assessing from behind the wicket, I am always involved in what needs to be done rather than thinking about the result.”

In the chase, RCB reached 218/8 and lost the game by a margin of 8 runs. Maxwell looked brilliant for his 76 off 36, while Du Plessis scored a 33-ball 62. Tushar Deshpande took three wickets, and Matheesha Pathirana picked up two wickets in the game. With this win, CSK moved into third place with six wickets.
