Melbourne Stars fans were in for a treat on Wednesday as their skipper, Glenn Maxwell, turned on the heat at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and blasted his way to a stunning maiden century.

Defending champions, Sydney Sixers, were sent on a leather hunt by the ‘Big Show’ as he blitzed his way to a 57-ball 103. The knock was studded with 12 fours and three huge sixes. Maxwell’s knock ensured that the Stars’ bowler had something to defend after a horrendous start.

The Stars were two down with just six runs on the board when Maxwell came in to join Nick Larkin. The duo began the innings’ resurrection albeit at a slow rate. While Larking struggled to get going, Maxwell found his groove in the 5th over bowled by Ben Dwarshuis.

“So jealous of players like this” – Aaron Finch on the Big Show

He took the pacer on and smashed him for a four and a six, which incidentally happened to be his 100th BBL six. Larkin fell in his quest to up the ante but Maxwell stood undeterred. He pulled out the reverse sweep while on 91, triggering a “So jealous of players like this,” response from Aaron Finch on air.

Sure enough, he reached his hundred just a couple of balls later. The moment was met with raucous applause from his home crowd at the MCG. Elated, Glenn Maxwell celebrated with a kiss on the helmet, soaking in the standing ovation from the packed stadium. Although he didn’t last much longer after that, he propelled the team’s score to 177/5.

Josh Phillippe steals the limelight from Glenn Maxwell

Unfortunately for Glenn Maxwell, his innings wasn’t enough to get his team on the winning side. Sixers’ in-form opener, Josh Philippe, put on a show of his own. The 24-year-old wicket-keeper batsman smashed 99 in just 61 balls, including 11 fours and 2 sixes.

Philippe finished the match in style, smoking a six off of Qais Ahmad over deep mid-wicket. The win took the Sixers back to the top of the table with three wins in four matches. As for Melbourne Stars, they remain in third place with two wins in two matches, which opens up for some great opportunities on online cricket betting sites in indian rupees.
