IPL 2022: After three consecutive captivating seasons, the Delhi Capitals (DC) failed to qualify for the playoffs of IPL 2022. Delhi needed to defeat Mumbai Indians in the last group game but the Rishabh Pant led-team couldn’t get over the finish line. DC was eliminated from the league stage for the first time since 2019, with 7 wins from 14 games. Looking for new betting sites in India? We got you covered! Inconsistent batting performance aside from David Warner, no proper finisher in sight, and big auction buy not performing were the low points for DC. During the league stage, the Capitals had to deal with a large number of COVID-19 cases in their camp. They were also involved in a no-ball drama, with skipper Rishabh Pant and all-rounder Shardul Thakur fined and assistant coach Pravin Amre banned for a game.

Overall, it was an outing for DC in which they may have felt they underachieved significantly. As DC failed to meet expectations in IPL 2022, the team management is expected to make some announcements before the next year’s auction. Here are three players who DC may let go after a disappointing IPL 2022 season.

IPL 2022: DC unlikely to retain these three players

1) Shardul Thakur

The DC team management placed a high value on Shardul Thakur, spending Rs 10.75 crore on the all-rounder. Shardul, on the other hand, fell short of expectations, scoring 120 runs and taking 15 wickets in the season. Six of those wickets came in the last two league games, including his best bowling performance of 4/36. However, Shardul spent runs at a 9.78 economy rate to take those 15 wickets.

A franchise expects much more from a player of Shardul’s caliber, and team management may decide to release him in order to re-sign him for a lower salary. Many players have returned to their former teams after being released, and DC may do the same to increase their auction purse. 2) Mandeep Singh

Mandeep Singh was roped in by the Capitals for INR 1.10 crore in the mega auction. But the right-hander struggled in IPL 2022, scoring only 18 runs in three appearances. Mandeep was expected to do the job at the start of the season, but he started with a duck and was dismissed for 18 in the second game. He was benched after two poor performances. Mandeep replaced Tim Seifert who was having a torrid season at the top, but the move didn’t work.

With Prithvi Shaw out for two weeks, Mandeep returned to the playing XI against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but he was again dismissed for a duck. Mandeep Singh tied Rohit Sharma’s record for the most ducks in Indian Premier League history. Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed DC batter Mandeep for a 5-ball duck in the first over of the match. The right-handed batsman did not play again this season and may be released before the IPL 2023.

3) Tim Seifert

Tim Seifert was roped in by DC for his base price of INR 50 lakh. At the start of the tourney, it looked like a steal deal as Seifert came into the cash-rich league with a huge reputation. The management entrusted him with the opening responsibility, in the absence of Warner. It is to be noted that the Australian batter wasn’t available for the initial few weeks as he was on national duty in Pakistan. The New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter started the Capitals’ first two games against the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. He scored 21 and 3 in his only two IPL 2022 innings before testing positive for COVID-19 on the day of the Capitals’ game against the Punjab Kings. Seifert’s future with the Capitals appears to be uncertain, given the presence of power-hitting batters such as Warner and Rovman Powell.
