Mohammed Siraj: In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India’s bowling has rattled the world’s top-ranked Test team, Australia. Spinners have done the most of the damage, leading the Indian team to a 2-0 lead in the four-match series. But it will not be a wrong statement to say that the Indian pacers have also done a brilliant job on the pitches, helping the spinners. Especially Mohammed Siraj, who has been in great form over the last year or so.

He has performed brilliantly in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and has taken giant steps in international cricket. After being a replacement in the team, Siraj is now the leading pacer for India across all three formats. He is also the No. 1 ranked ODI bowler in the world. But how did he get so much better in a year? From being the bowler who conceded the most sixes in the IPL in 2022 to becoming the No. 1 ODI bowler.

Siraj didn’t let the Indian team miss Bumrah. He picked up 41 wickets in 2022 in 27 games at an average of 25.92 across all three formats. But his performance in the IPL 2022, where he took only nine wickets in 15 games and leaked runs at an economy rate of over 10. His RCB teammate, Dinesh Karthik, has lauded the 28-year-old pacer and said that the IPL has helped him grow as a bowler. In an interaction with a show on Cricbuzz, DK said,

“I’m very sure that he would be part of the 2023 World Cup team. He deserves that spot. He has done really well. The 2022 IPL taught him a lot of things about handling failures, and that has kept him in good stead. I see him as one of those — let’s just say he doesn’t get injuries — at least a 300-wicket Test bowler.”

The veteran wicketkeeper also said that Siraj is best suited for Test cricket and will end up as a good fast bowler. Furthermore, he also said that he is equally effective in ODIs and T20Is as well. Siraj was part of the Indian team as a stand-by for the 2022 T20 World Cup. But didn’t get a game. He is also doing well in the ongoing BGT series for India.
