Mumbai Indians were called in to bat first after they lost the toss against RCB. The Rohit Sharma-led side had a terrible start as they lost their key batters in quick succession. Young Tilak Varma then played a scintillating knock to help them post a competitive total of 171-7.

While it was Tilak Varma who stood as a lone warrior in the batting department, none of the MI bowlers looked effective. The opening duo of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis toyed with the Mumbai Indians bowlers and made the game a one-sided affair chasing the total in just 16.2 overs.
“I’m concerned because I sort of called it before the start of the IPL that I didn’t think they’d be anywhere near the finals. I just feel there are too many holes amongst their team and I don’t think they’ve got a balance in their squad either. They don’t have the domestic bowling depth and the international bowling depth,” Tom Moody said on ESPNCricinfo.

Mumbai Indians don’t have balance with their overseas players: Tom Moody
“They don’t have balance with their overseas players either. They’ve got a lot of power-hitters and young power-hitters in Brevis, Stubbs, and David. Three of them are taking up the eight slots that you’re given,” the former SRH Coach further added.
It’s worth noting that Mumbai Indians have too many flamboyant overseas players but none of them looked reliable in the MI vs RCB game. While the Rohit Sharma-led side has the likes of Tim David, Dewald Brevis, and Cameron Green to play the big shots, they don’t have any overseas batters to anchor the innings.
Mumbai Indians have invested heavily in English pacer Jofra Archer. However, Archer hasn’t looked in any sort of rhythm after his comeback into international cricket. They don’t have any Indian bowler who can win matches for them on his own which further raises question marks on their team balance.
