It was an intense final game that concluded probably the best edition of the Indian Premier League in history. After losing the toss, GT batted first and did an incredible job of posting the highest total ever in an IPL final. Gujarat posted a huge target of 214/4 in their first inning, courtesy of an exceptional knock from the 21-year-old Sai Sudharsan. The left-hander played a blistering knock of 96 off 47 at a strike rate of 204.26.

Chasing the target, Chennai also got off to a good start with a 74-run partnership for the first wicket. Ruturaj Gaikwad made a 16-ball 26, and Devon Conway scored 47 off 25. CSK maintained their scoring rates throughout their innings and put pressure on the GT bowlers. In the end, it was CSK that held the nerve to register a 5-wicket win. The equation came down to the 10 needed off the last two balls. Jadeja smashed the fifth ball for a six over the long-on boundary and hit a four towards short fine to complete the victory. Dhoni was seen with closed eyes on the last couple of balls of the over. He opened his eyes when CSK won the game. After the win, when Jadeja was doing the victory lap, Dhoni hugged him and picked him up, which could possibly be the moment of the 16th edition.

The CSK skipper showed more emotions than he had ever shown in his career. He even hugged former CSK opener Matthew Hayden, who was on his broadcast duties. It was an emotional moment for Jadeja as well, who had a captaincy failure in 2022.
