India is taking on South Africa in the table-topper clash of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This game will decide which team will end the group stage at the top. India has won seven games and is at the top. On the other hand, South Africa has six wins and is second on the points table. These two teams have been the best so far.

The game started with Rohit Sharma winning the toss and deciding to bat first. India got off to a flying start with 91 runs in the first ten overs. But then, things changed when spinners came in to play. Rohit looked good for his 40 off 24. But then Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer added 134 runs. Iyer got out after scoring 77 off 87 balls. Virat went on to score a hundred.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Virat Kohli breaks some huge Records with his 49th ODI ton

It was also the 35th birthday for King Kohli, and he gave a great present to his fans and went on to score an important hundred. Virat scored his 49th century, and with this, he made some big records. First of all, he called Sachin Tendulkar with the most ODI hundreds in the history of the game. Both Indian superstars now have 49 centuries.

Virat scored an unbeaten 101 off 121 balls, with ten boundaries when it was hard to score runs. India ended up at 326/5, which is a great score on the slow pitch at Eden Gardens. Now, Virat Kohli has the joint most ODI hundreds. He needs one more century to become the first batter to achieve 50 ODI hundreds. It was Virat’s 5th ODI hundred against South Africa, which is the joint-most against them.

Virat Kohli also became the 8th player to score an ODI hundred on birthdays. He is the third batter after Ross Taylor and Mitchell Marsh to score a hundred on birthday in a World Cup game. It is a challenging score, and now it will be Indian bowlers who will have a big job in their hands. South Africa has done well with the bat, but this will be their highest World Cup chase if they can do it.
