IPL 2023: David Warner-led Delhi Capitals are yet to find their best batting combination in IPL 2023 as most of their batters haven’t fired yet. Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra reckons that their biggest headache will be to choose David Warner’s opening partner ahead of the DC vs SRH game on April 29.

Prithvi Shaw hasn’t got enough runs with the bat due to which Delhi Capitals have never got the kind of starts they were looking at. Phil Salt and Mitchell Marsh are the other options that they can try to play along with Warner but the two overseas batters haven’t shown any form yet.

“The problem is who will open with David Warner. It will be interesting if Phil Salt opens again. Can Mitchell Marsh be made to open? That’s another question. The batting order is slightly topsy-turvy,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel about Delhi Capitals’ opening combination.

“Mitchell Marsh hasn’t scored too many runs. That is one problem for this team. Manish Pandey scored runs in the last match but no one is scoring a lot of runs. Axar Patel is looking like the second-best batter in this side after David Warner,” the former Indian batter pointed out DC’s batting lineup.

David Warner had scored 306 runs in IPL 2023 while Axar Patel has amassed 182 runs. Warner and Axar are the only two DC batters who’ve looked in some sort of rhythm while most other batters including experienced overseas batters have failed to perform in IPL 2023.

The David Warner-led side were expecting Prithvi Shaw to play aggressive cricket for them in the powerplay overs but that hasn’t been the case. The young opening batter had consistent chances in the initial games after which they dropped him out of the playing XI in the game against SRH on April 24.

England batter Phil Salt too came in with a great reputation but hasn’t got going in his first two games. He scored 5 runs in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders while Sunrisers Hyderabad dismissed him with a duck. Consequently, the DC team management might need to rethink their opening combination.
