IPL 2023: “Mohammad Shami could be Gujarat Titans’ highest wicket-taker”, Aakash Chopra

Team India’s premier pacer Mohammad Shami has been in prime form for the last few months and he will like to keep the momentum going in IPL 2023. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has picked Shami as Gujarat Titans’ likely highest wicket-taker for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

Mohammad Shami was exceptional with the ball against Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He did pretty well in the 2022 T20 World Cup as well which was played in Australia.

Shami was the highest wicket-taker for Gujarat Titans in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League. The premium seamer grabbed 20 wickets at an economy rate of just 8.00 despite bowling in the powerplay and death overs.

“Highest wicket-taker – your mind might be saying Rashid Khan but I am not going towards Rashid Khan because he gets less wickets. Mohammad Shami could be their highest wicket-taker. Shubman Gill to be the highest run-scorer for the Gujarat franchise,” Aakash Chopra said on his show ‘AakashVani’ on JioCinema.

In the bowlers’ list, you have Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Shami, Darshan Nalkande, Noor Ahmed, R Sai Kishore, Pradeep Sangwan, Yash Dayal, Jayant Yadav, Mohit Sharma, Joshua Little and Shivam Mavi,” Aakash Chopra commented about Gujarat Titans’ bowling lineup.

Gujarat Titans were exceptional as a bowling unit in IPL 2022. Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan bowled the crucial overs for their side while they got great support from young bowlers like Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joseph. Hardik Pandya too had a phenomenal season as a bowler.

Shivam Mavi, who recently made his T20I, has been picked by the Gujarat Titans for IPL 2023. Along with Mavi, they have also acquired the services of Irish left-arm seamer Joshua Little. who had taken a hat-trick against New Zealand in the 2022 World Cup?

In the spin department, Gujarat Titans have got Jayant Yadav and R Sai Kishore along with Rashid Khan. The Hardik Pandya-led side has got all the bases covered specifically in the bowling department as they’ll look to defend their title in IPL 2023.
