Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka – 3rd ODI : Match Preview, Probable Playing XI, Pitch Report & Updates

Match Details

The final One Day International of the three-match series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on May 28, Friday at 12:30 pm IST.

Preview

The Sri Lanka-Bangladesh series was expected to be a closely fought affair. However, the series has just gone one way as Sri Lanka have failed to show any resistance and consequently, are on the verge of a whitewash against Bangladesh. Though the bowlers have done a decent job, the batting has let them down. Interestingly, batting was their stronger department.

Bangladesh too hasn’t been at their best but Mushfiqur Rahim and the bowlers have got them over the line. Looking at the misery of Sri Lanka batsmen, Bangladesh would back themselves to clean sweep Sri Lanka tomorrow.

Pitch Report

The wickets have been sluggish in nature and have offered plenty of assistance to the spinners. The pacers have got the ball to move early on. However, the wicket is not unplayable by any means and once set, plenty of runs are for the taking.

Entering the second One Day International, the host side will have a massive advantage as they registered a comfortable victory in the first ODI by 33 runs.

Coming to the bowling, Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan looked in fine form as they picked three and four wickets respectively.

In an otherwise disappointing outing, the only positive for Sri Lanka from the first One Day International was the blistering form of all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. Wanindu was the highest run-scorer for the visitors with 74 runs off 60 deliveries. Preview

Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are coming back from defeats in their previous series. While Bangladesh was annihilated by New Zealand, Sri Lanka bowed down to West Indies. At home, Bangladesh will feel more confident about their chances. The Tamim Iqbal led side has been bolstered by the return of their ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan. In addition, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das form a formidable batting line-up. Also, they have a perfect mix of pace and spin in the bowling department and the all-rounders add a lot of depth to the team.

The visitors, on the other hand, heavily rely on Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva. Sri Lanka have dropped their senior players like Angelo Mathews, Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal for this series thus they are short on experience. If the aforementioned trio fails to perform, Sri Lanka will be in trouble. Also, their bowling looks bleak. They will need big performances from the spin duo of Akila Dananjaya and Wanindu Hasaranga.

Pitch Report

The pitch should be a good cricketing wicket. While there shouldn’t be much on offer for the pacers, spinners will play a big role. Also, the wicket might get slower as the match progresses.

Probable Playing XIs

Bangladesh

Tamim Iqbal(C), Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim(WK), Soumya Sarkar, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain/ Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mehidy Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman.

Sri Lanka

Kusal Perera(C/WK), Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Wanindu Hasaranga, Akila Dananjaya/ Ashen Bandara, Isuru Udana, Dushmantha Chameera, and Shiran Fernando/ Chamika Karunaratne.

Key Players

Tami Iqbal – Tamim Iqbal is Bangladesh’s highest run-getter across formats and has 13 hundreds and 50 half-centuries to his name. The skipper will look to lead from the front.

Shakib Al Hasan – An outstanding all-rounder who is currently ranked number one in ICC rankings. Shakib has a lot to offer, both with the bat and ball.

Kusal Perera – Kusal Perera will have to play a big role if Sri Lanka has to go the distance. He has scored five ODI centuries and would love to add a few more on the Bangladesh tour.

Probable Winners

Bangladesh has a good record at home thus they will start as favourites.
