Shubman Gill raced through the powerplay, smashing 36 off just 16 balls which included an array of four consecutive boundaries against SRH pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi. He took on each and every SRH bowler on a batting-friendly wicket in Ahmedabad to take GT to 65 for one in six overs.

Combining with Sai Sudharsan, who played the role of an anchor until the halfway mark in the innings, the two GT batters stitched a 100-run partnership. Shubman Gill played his fourth fifty-plus knock this season off just 22 deliveries.

Shubman Gill kept playing aggressive shots and pulled SRH skipper Aiden Markram for two consecutive boundaries in the 7th over of the GT innings. Gill then struck leg spinner Mayank Markande for two more boundaries in the very next over.

Wickets kept falling at the other end as Gill’s innings were stilted but the ever-dependable batter eventually brought up his maiden IPL hundred with a single to long off in the 19th over bowled by T Natarajan. The GT batter took only 56 deliveries to reach the 100-run mark.

Gill was eventually dismissed for 101 off 58 balls after he had smashed 13 fours and a six during his stay the crease. He aimed towards the extra cover region off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling but found Abdul Samad who took a good catch to get rid of him.

Shubman Gill went past the 500-run mark in IPL 2023 for the first time in his IPL career, having scored 440 runs in 2020, 478 runs in 2021, and 483 runs in 2022. He also reached the milestone of 1000 runs for Gujarat Titans, the only player to do so.
