DC vs GT: “Was Just One of Those off Days”- Shubman Gill Backed Hardik Pandya After a Struggling Fifty vs DC
DC vs GT: After dominating almost every chase, the defending champion Gujarat Titans failed to chase a below-par target on Monday. GT locked horns with the Delhi Capitals on May 2nd at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, and the game ended in DC’s favor. Despite restricting Delhi to a low score of 130/8, Hardik Pandya and his men fell short by five runs. The GT skipper scored a rusty half-century and made an unbeaten 59 off 53, with seven fours, but couldn’t take his team home.

It was a struggling knock, which cost Gujarat the game to some extent. The defending champions entered the game as favorites against the bottom-ranked Delhi Capitals. Mohammed Shami set the tone for GT with a fiery spell of 4/11, and Delhi lost their top five batters for just 23 runs. From 23/5, Delhi reached a respectable total of 130/8, with some good contributions from the lower-order batters. Aman Khan scored his maiden IPL fifty and made a 44-ball 51.

DC vs GT: “Delhi bowled some yorkers in the end and dried up boundaries”- Shubman Gill
GT also had a similar kind of start to their chase. They lost their top four wickets for just 32 runs in 6.4 overs. Hardik and Abhinav Manohar (26 off 33) added 62 runs for the fifth wicket to take the team near the target. GT needed 33 off the last two when Rahul Tewatia (20 off 7) smashed three consecutive sixes off Anrich Nortje to bring the equation to 12 off the last over.
But Ishant Sharma bowled well, and GT only reached 125/6 despite Hardik remaining unbeaten on the crease. It raised some questions about the GT skipper’s batting approach. However, opener Shubman Gill has backed the skipper and said that it was an off day for him. Gill said in the post-match presentation,
“As a player and as a batsman, we are all bound to have one off days. It was just one of those off days. He backed himself to get those runs at the back end. They [Delhi] bowled some yorkers in the end. I don’t think the wicket was that bad. We failed to put up partnerships in the top-order which created pressure on the lower-order.”
Gujarat are still at the top of the table with 12 points and an NRR of +0.532. They can take this loss as an eye-opener, as the tournament is getting tighter. GT will move to Jaipur to play their next game against the Rajasthan Royals on Friday.
