RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bat first. Opening batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler took charge, with Jaiswal taking the aggressive approach and quickly blasting Mumbai Indians’ (MI) opening bowlers. The duo managed to score 72 runs in just 7 overs before Piyush Chawla sent Buttler back to the pavilion. For the next few overs, Jaiswal saw less of the strike as his fellow opener and captain Sanju Samson, as well as Jason Holder and Shimron Hetmyer, were dismissed by Chawla and Arshad Khan. Despite losing partners, Jaiswal maintained his excellent strike rate.

Jaiswal reached his half-century in the 11th over off just 32 balls, and his century came in the 18th over with a four off his 53rd delivery. Jaiswal’s impressive knock finally came to an end with just two balls remaining in the innings, but not before he had scored a superb 100 runs, taking RR’s total to an imposing 212.

MI needed to chase down the highest successful total but their skipper Rohit Sharma once again struggled with the bat. However, Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green steadied the innings and did not allow RR to take any further early wickets. Green found his rhythm and hit Trent Boult for three boundaries in the third over, and also hit a six off Ravichandran Ashwin as MI finished the powerplay on 58 for 1. Ishan was dismissed for 28 in the 9th over, but Suryakumar Yadav picked up the pace and started hitting big shots right from the start. In the very next over, Ashwin took another wicket, dismissing Green for 44.

Samson brought Boult back into the attack in the 16th over, and the pacer made an immediate impact by dismissing Suryakumar and conceding just six runs. Suryakumar had scored a quick 55 runs off just 29 balls and had shared a 51-run partnership with Varma for the fourth wicket. In the 17th over, Tilak and Tim David hit Jason Holder for a four and six respectively to collect 14 runs and bring down the equation to 43 runs from the last three overs. It all came down to the last over, and Tim David finished the game off in style by hitting three sixes.

In the end, RR won the match by seven wickets, thanks largely to Jaiswal’s brilliant century. Buttler and Jaiswal’s early partnership set the tone for RR’s innings, and despite losing wickets, Jaiswal kept the team on track for a big total. MI had their chances, but RR’s bowlers managed to pick up crucial wickets at crucial moments, and in the end, RR emerged victorious.
