ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Quinton de Kock breaks some all-time records with his 100 vs NZ in Pune
It has been an incredible tournament for South Africa so far, and they have done a brilliant job in both departments of the game. South Africa have won five of its six games and are looking pretty good to qualify for the semi-finals. One of the prime reasons for their success is Quinton de Kock, who has shown incredible performances so far.
The left-hander has smashed his fourth ton in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in the ongoing game against New Zealand at the MCA Stadium in Pune. After winning the toss, New Zealand decided to bowl first. But it didn’t go as per plan. Two South African batters made hundreds in the inning. Quinton de Kock smashed his fourth hundred in this tournament.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Quinton de Kock broke a multiple record during his 100 vs NZ in Pune
Before this game, Quinton de Kock had scored three hundred, and he continued that form and completed his fourth of the tournament. With this hundred, he has broken some big records in history. De Kock has equaled the record of Kumar Sangakkara for the second-most hundreds in a single edition of the World Cup. Sangakkara also made four hundred in the 2015 World Cup.
The record is held by Rohit Sharma, who scored five in the 2019 World Cup. De Kock needs one more to equal that record as well. It was the 21st ODI hundred for de Kock, and he has equaled Herschelle Gibbs as the third-most hundreds for South Africa in ODI cricket. During his innings, Quinton de Kock went past Jacques Kallis to score the most runs for a South African batter in a single edition of the World Cup.
Kallis scored 485 runs in the 2007 World Cup, while De Kock has already scored 545 runs in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He still has a handful of games left, and if he can continue his form, he might end up scoring the most runs ever in a single World Cup edition. Sachin Tendulkar held that record, scoring 673 runs in 2003, and De Kock only needs 128 runs more.
