Ahead of the start of the T20 mega event, West Indies had to deal with a big blow. Fabian Allen has been ruled out of the mega event owing to an ankle injury. The Event Technical Committee has, however, provided a green signal to West Indies to include left-arm spinner, Akeal Hosein, as Allen’s replacement in the 15-member squad.

Heading into this tournament, Allen was a pivotal part of the team who featured regularly in the side in the home season against Australia and South Africa before the start of the Caribbean Premier League. Hosein who was previously roped in as a reserve has now replaced Allen in the squad for the marquee event. Hosein has been in impressive form lately. Playing for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, he picked up 13 wickets at a splendid economy rate of 4.92 in the tournament. His latest appearance for West Indies was in August this year against Pakistan in a T20I. However, he has featured in a total of 15 games for West Indies in white-ball cricket.

West Indies is all set to start its World Cup campaign against England on October 23. Ahead of the start of the tournament, the team locked horns with Pakistan for their first warm-up match.
