IPL 2023: Harbhajan Singh recalls his time with CSK

IPL 2023: “Playing under Dhoni at CSK was something different”, Harbhajan Singh on his stint with CSK

Team India’s former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has played for multiple IPL sides including Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Chennai Super Kings. The premier spinner also had a glorious international career that lasted for more than 17 years.

However, Harbhajan Singh believes that the phase he enjoyed the most came in the year 2018 and 2019 during his stint with CSK.

“Playing under Dhoni at CSK was something different. Those 2 years probably were the best years that I played cricket. No stress, no drama. You just go out there, don’t worry about result. Even if you lose, it’s fine. This was something different. It was very enjoyable. Everybody was together. Not just the players, families as well. We used to travel around India with lot of people, so it was great fun,” said Harbhajan on Star Sports.

It’s worth noting that Harbhajan Singh was a key part of CSK when they lifted the IPL trophy in 2018 and then went on to play the final in the year 2019 as well.

The premier off-spinner was a part of the Mumbai Indians franchise from 2008-2017 while he represented the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020 and IPL 2021 editions after which he announced his retirement from the cash-rich league.

The former off-spinner played 163 games in the IPL where he scalped 150 wickets with a staggering economy rate of just 7.08. Meanwhile, he played 28 T20Is for the Men in Blue and grabbed 25 wickets, and was part of the T-20 World Cup-winning side as well.

CSK is known for providing a calm and stress-free environment to it’s players in order to get the best out of them. MS Dhoni’s presence as the leader has helped them evolve over the years and Harbhajan Singh’s claim is a testimony of CSK’s success.
