After hosting an action-packed 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the United Arab Emirates from September to November 2020, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to conduct the 2021 edition of the T20 Extravaganza in the month of April and May in India. Ahead of the IPL 2021, the Indian board will be organizing a mini-auction for all the eight franchises where they can pick players to fill in the loopholes in their squad and give their best to win the coveted IPL trophy.
The Indian board was keen on hosting the mega-auction for IPL 2021 and add two new franchises to expand the tournament. However, in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) hosted on December 24, 2020, the office-bearers decided to postpone the idea of expanding the tournament to IPL 2022. Thus, only a mini-auction will be conducted before IPL 2021 and the 10-team IPL will see light only in the 15th edition of the T20 extravaganza.
After various speculations, the Indian board finally revealed the date and venue of the auctions for IPL 2021 via the official Twitter handle of the Indian Premier League. It is learned that BCCI will organize the much-awaited auction on February 18, 2021 in Chennai.
“ALERT: IPL 2021 Player Auction on 18th February. Venue: Chennai. How excited are you for this year’s Player Auction? Set your reminder folks,” they tweeted. Check this free cricket tips facebook and get free tips and tricks from us.
All the teams had shed their extra baggage and had increased the limit of their purse for auctions as they had submitted the final list of retained and released players to the Indian board on January 20.
