IPL 2023: We are just one week away from the start of the next edition of the Indian Premier League. It will start with a match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 31. With two teams making their debut in the last season, the competition has become more competitive. CSK and MI, who have won nine titles between them, had a disastrous season, finishing in the bottom two positions on the points table.

It has made the upcoming season more interesting. The IPL 2023 will introduce new rules, such as the “impact player” and selecting the playing XI after the toss. However, due to injuries, some teams are having difficulty selecting their best combination. A number of players are going to miss the upcoming season. Some notable omissions include Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and Kyle Jamieson. Jonny Bairstow will also be absent as the ECB didn’t give him the NOC.

Another name that will miss the entire season is the DC skipper Rishabh Pant. The 24-year-old suffered a horrific car accident in December and has undergone various injuries. As a result, he will be away from the action for the next 6–9 months at least. Thus, the franchise has named David Warner and Axar Patel as the captain and vice-captain for the team.

Pant is an impact player, and his absence will certainly be missed. But DC has got back up with the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Warner, Rovman Powell, Prithvi Shaw, and Rilee Rossouw on the team. Former Indian player Ajay Jadeja named Marsh as the key player for DC if they want to win their maiden title. In a discussion on Cricbuzz, he said,

“What a performance (from Mitchell Marsh). Delhi (Capitals) fans would be very happy with this. Such a big player and now he has to come to form. His brother had won the Orange Cap once, but Punjab couldn’t win the tournament then. But if he (Mitchell) wins the Orange Cap, their team will win the tournament, such is the impact of this player.”

DC will lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants on April 1 in Lucknow in their first game of the season. They were on the verge of qualifying for the playoffs until they were defeated by MI in their final group match. Thus, they ended the season in fifth place.
