The bowler did a great job for the RCB and picked up some early wickets. At one stage, KKR was struggling at 89/5 in 11.3 with half the team back in the dugout. Then, Shardul Thakur joined the crease, and he and Rinku Singh took KKR back into the game. Shardul smashed the fastest half-century by an Indian in the IPL 2023 off 20 balls. Both batters added 103 runs for the sixth wicket off just 45 balls to take KKR past the 200-run mark. Shardul made 68 off 29 while Rinku scored a 33-ball 46.

Kolkata posted a big total of 204/7 in their first inning. It was a big score to chase, and RCB required a good opening stand, which they got against MI. In fact, both Du Plessis and Virat Kohli started in a similar fashion and added 44 runs for the first wicket. But the KKR skipper brought Sunil Narine to the crease, and he dismissed Kohli for 21.

That wicket brought the downfall of the RCB batting, and they lost wickets at regular intervals. In the end, RCB got all out for 123 runs in just 17.3 overs, losing the game by 81 runs. KKR spinners took nine wickets out of 10. In the post-match conference, the RCB skipper spoke about the loss and explained why they lost the game. He said,

We had set it up nicely with the ball, probably at 100/5 around 13 overs, we kind of gave away 20-25 runs extra on that wicket. Shardul played incredibly well, he took the game away from us and KKR’s leg-spinners bowled brilliantly. They got on top of us, with Narine and Chakaravarthy. It was still a good wicket, our batting was very average.

The 81-run loss against KKR has dented RCB’s NRR, as they have fallen to 7th place with -1.256. After a dominating win over MI, it came as a wake-up call. They will now play Lucknow Super Giants in their next game on April 10 at home.
