As the cricketing world draws closer to the much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp has been abuzz with activity. In a recent intra-squad practice match, it was the batsmen who stole the limelight, with Phil Salt, Nitish Rana, and Rinku Singh putting up a splendid show of hard-hitting cricket.

In the practice fixture, which pitted Team Gold against Team Purple, Phil Salt, the aggressive top-order batsman, blasted a fantastic 78 runs from just 41 balls, setting the pace for a high-scorer. The middle-order also flexed their muscles, with Nitish Rana contributing a rapid 50 off 30 balls. Not to be outdone, the talented Rinku Singh chipped in with a quick-fire 37 from a mere 16 balls. This batting masterclass propelled Team Gold to an imposing total of 237 in their allotted 20 overs.
The power-packed innings did not end with the top-order, as KKR’s explosive all-rounder, Andre Russell, added valuable runs to help Team Gold achieve a formidable score. It was a batting display that demonstrated KKR’s depth and potential as they head into the new IPL season.
Fierce competition, even in practice
Despite the remarkable effort by Team Gold, the scrimmage was a nail-biting affair as Team Purple made an impressive chase, nearly clinching victory with 232 runs. The competitive finish, falling short by only five runs, provided a thrilling spectacle and highlighted the team’s fighting spirit.
Adding to the anticipation within the KKR camp is the arrival of Mitchell Starc, the most expensive player in IPL history. Starc, known for his lethal pace and swing, joined the squad last Sunday and is expected to be a crucial member as the team intensifies its preparation.
The Knight Riders are eager to start their IPL 2024 campaign on a high note as they gear up to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23. With regular skipper Shreyas Iyer back in the fold, KKR will have their leader to marshal the troops as they aim to combine individual class with cohesive teamwork.
The underlying goal of the practice match was to give the premier batters of the likely playing XI an opportunity to bat together, gel as a unit, and fine-tune their skills ahead of the grueling season. If this inter-squad match was any indication, KKR’s batsmen are in prime form to enthrall audiences and take the IPL by storm. The stage is set for breathtaking cricket, and the Knights appear ready to joust their way to the top in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
