IPL 2024: CSK’s Trio to Outearn Skipper MS Dhoni as they Gear Up for Record 6th Title Quest

As the fervor for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 climbs, with the season set to kick off on March 22 at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, the spotlight swings not just to the on-field rivalry but also the financial play at work within teams.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), one of the most celebrated franchises of the league, is set to launch their campaign against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in what is anticipated to be a cricketing spectacle of the season’s opening match. Behind the scenes, it is not just strategies and team composition that create a buzz, but also the salaries of the high-profile players. In an intriguing turn of finances, three of CSK’s star players will draw in higher salaries than their captain, MS Dhoni, in the upcoming edition of the IPL.

Dhoni, who has been synonymous with the franchise since the league’s inception, will steer the team yet again as they aim for their record 6th IPL title. While Dhoni’s leadership remains unquestioned, his salary has been surpassed by some of his teammates.

At the IPL 2024 auctions, CSK made significant player purchases, including New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who was snapped up for a formidable INR 14 crore. Mitchell’s contract, worth INR 2 crore more than Dhoni’s own fee, reflects the increasing valuation of international stars in the IPL market. The franchise, known for its strategic acumen in player selection, backs Mitchell to shine in the forthcoming season.

Another star player who will outearn Dhoni is Indian pace spearhead Deepak Chahar. Also roped in for a sizable amount of INR 14 crore, Chahar’s proven track record of 71 wickets in 68 matches for CSK justifies his high price tag. A key player in the CSK lineup, Chahar’s ability to strike early in the innings has often provided the team with crucial breakthroughs.

Completing the trio of the top earners is Ravindra Jadeja, who continues to command a steep price of INR 16 crore, same as the last season. Jadeja, who had a brief stint as captain of CSK in 2022 before the responsibilities were revert back to Dhoni, remains one of the most valuable all-rounders in the T20 format. His remuneration testifies to his pivotal role in the team’s structure and his market value as a versatile player.

As CSK gears up for their title bid in the 17th edition of the IPL, the fans will be noting not just the performances and leadership of Dhoni but also how the top earners justify their hefty paychecks in the quest for cricketing glory.
