The Perth Scorchers are defending their title this season. There have already been some brilliant performances registered, and fans saw a brilliant all-round performance on Tuesday by Glenn Maxwell.
The Melbourne Stars faced the Melbourne Renegades at the MCG in the 23rd game of the tournament. It was a rain-hit match, which was reduced to a 14-over per side. The Stars won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Renegades didn’t look comfortable and kept losing wickets. They ended up scoring only 97/7 in 14 overs during the first inning. Skipper Maxwell bowled three overs for just 1/8 and contained the scoring rate.

It was a below-par score against a strong batting lineup for the Stars. Though the Stars lost Daniel Lawrence (7) and Beau Webster (14) early, it was the unbeaten partnership between Thomas Rogers and skipper Glenn Maxwell for the third wicket that sealed the deal for the Stars. They added 48 runs off just 27 balls to win it for their team.
Rogers remained unbeaten on 46 off 34 balls, with seven fours. Maxwell scored 32 not out from 15 balls, including two fours and three sixes. Maxwell, who is known for playing some incredible shots, showed some unseen ability on the crease. One ramp shot he played off Kane Richardson on the fifth ball of the 9th over was worth watching. The pacer bowled a full delivery, Maxwell backed away, and he opened the face of the bat to ramp it over the keeper.
It was an unbelievable shot that only Maxwell could play. He also won Man of the Match for his all-round performance. It was also his second consecutive MOTM award. With this, the Stars have registered their fourth win in a row. They have jumped to third place on the points table, surpassing the defending champion, the Perth Scorchers.
