Injuries are part and parcel of the sport. Every year, hundreds of players from across the world participate in the world’s most lucrative T20 league. Many suffer injuries and miss out on matches every year. This year many cricketers withdrew from the IPL 2022, either partially or fully, due to injuries. However, if they hadn’t missed, the fate of their respective franchises could have been different. This segment is for one such imagination.

1. Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders. He has not been in the best of form lately and his lackadaisical form was evident this season as well. Rahane played 7 matches before sustaining a hamstring injury that forced him to miss the last two matches. Though he could only score 133 in his 7 innings, it would have been great to see him back in form. Moreover, he is the best choice to lead this injured XI.

2. Jason Roy

England opener Jason Roy was bought by Gujarat Titans but withdrew before the start of the tournament citing bio-bubble fatigue. The challenging Covid time has made the lives of players difficult. Extended stays in confined bio-bubbles have taken a toll on many players. Roy was one of them. He is an exquisite opener and would have been a great addition to the Gujarat Titans.

3. Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav was already nursing an injury prior to the start of the tournament that he sustained in the series against West Indies. He, however, looked in a phenomenal form on his return. Surya played 8 matches this year before tearing his forearm muscles and being ruled out of the tournament. In these 8 matches, Surya scored 303 runs at an average of 43.29 and a strike rate of 145.67.

4. Ravindra Jadeja

Washington Sundar sustained multiple injuries that eventually forced him to miss a few matches in between the tournament. He first suffered a wound to his hand. Sundar had to sit out for three games owing to his spilled webbing. He later sustained another injury to his already wounded hand in the game against Chennai Super Kings. Sundar could only feature in 9 games for Sunrisers Hyderabad this season.

6. Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins already joined late this season as Australia were playing a bilateral series in Pakistan. He then could only play 5 matches before sustaining a hip injury. Cummins was then called back to Sydney by Cricket Australia where he was sent under rehabilitation. However, 5 matches were enough for Cummins to score the joint-fastest fifty and pick 3 for 22 in his last game against the Mumbai Indians.

7. Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar was perhaps the biggest miss of the IPL 2022. He had sustained a quadricep injury in the series against the West Indies earlier this year. Chahar was expected to join in the end of April but suffered a back injury that eventually ruled him out for IPL 2022.

8. Nathan Coulter – Nile

The Australian all-rounder suffered a shin injury in his first game against Sunrisers Hyderabad and was ruled out for the remainder of the season. Coulter-Nile is a handy all-rounder and could have changed the fate of the Rajasthan Royals in the finals.

9. Mark Wood

The pacer from New Zealand was a hot pick for Chennai Super Kings this season. He, however, picked up a hamstring injury in the first game, forcing him out for the remainder of the season.
