Batting first, Supernova posted 165 runs on the board in 20 overs. Deandra Dottin was the lead scorer, scoring 62 runs from 44 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur showed some flair and scored 43 off 29 balls comprising 3 sixes and one four.
Velocity started poorly in response and stumbled at the start. Captain Deepti Sharma too got out cheaply at a score of 2. Laura Wolvaardt, however, held the fort till the end and scored 65 off 40. Another successful season of the Women’s T20 Challenge has once again stirred the debate of the Women’s IPL in India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been hosting the Women’s T20 Challenge since 2018. It is considered to be a progressive step towards hosting the Women’s IPL. Despite willful efforts, the BCCI has failed to materialize on the same.
Women’s T20 Challenge: BCCI’s extended proposal to start IPL earlier this year
Earlier this year, the BCCI extended their proposal to conduct a six-team IPL starting next year. The decision was taken at a Governing Council (GC) meeting of the Indian Premier League in Mumbai on March 25. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah tweeted after the game about the next season being an even better one, hinting about the start of the much-awaited Women’s IPL next season.
