WTC 2023-25: Pakistan are on tour of Australia for a three-match Test series. The first test between the two teams took place at Perth Stadium in Perth, and it ended in a humiliating defeat for the visitors. The game ended within four days, as the visitors couldn’t even bat for two sessions on the fourth day. Australia registered a massive win by 360 runs.

The hosts set a mammoth target of 450 runs to win, which was a difficult task for the visitors. But it ended with Pakistan getting all out for just 89 runs in 30.2 overs and suffering one of the biggest test defeats in their cricket history. Saud Shakeel was the top scorer in the second innings with 24 runs.

Pakistan’s defeat in the first test in Perth has certainly changed the scenario of the ongoing World Test Championship 2023–25. Notably, Pakistan were at the top of the WTC table before this game, with two wins out of two games. But with this defeat, they have slipped to second place with 66.67 percent, while India jumped to the top with the same percent.

New Zealand and Bangladesh are currently third and fourth with 50 percent, respectively. Australia is fifth with 41.67 percent. Notably, this was a 15th defeat for Pakistan on the trot in Australia. They have not won a single test in Australia since 1999. The last time they won a test was in 1995. Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon also completed 500 wickets in the test.

He became only the third Australian bowler to take 500 or more wickets in test cricket. Speaking of the game, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood rattled Pakistan’s batting order and took three wickets each. Earlier, Pat Cummins declared the second inning at 233/5 after Usman Khawaja got out at 90. Mitchell Marsh was adjudged Man of the Match for scoring two half-centuries in the game.
