Young Australia women cricketer Phoebe Litchfield has been awarded the ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2023 Award for her great performance in all three formats of the game as an opening batter.

While Marufa Akter from Bangladesh and England’s Lauren Bell join Phoebe Litchfield, all-rounder Darcey Carter from Scotland was also nominated as the contenders for the award. Her heaving year began with impressive performances against Pakistan in ODIs where she impressed the fans with two unbeaten half-centuries in successive games and quite an impression at the top of the order.

Having faced disappointment as she missed out the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad, Phoebe Litchfield put up a sensational comeback. She scored an unbeaten century to end at 106 runs against Ireland in Dublin during the third ODI series. In addition, her command of the T20Is was highlighted by a brutal fifty against West Indies remaining unconquered on 52 from just 19 balls blasting five sixes exhibiting the power and domination.

In the ODI series against the West Indies, Phoebe led her side from the front to gain victory in one of the matches by knocking a match-winning inning of 27 in the third ODI. She took her red-ball performances against India and was one of the main ingredients to Australia’s success in that series.Despite not having a great Test tournament, Phoebe Litchfield outclassed in the ODI series against India as she scored 78 and 63 in the first two games of the tournament which propelled Australia to another series win.

Clearly it was Phoebe Litchfield’s century against Ireland that won the best performance of the year from across the ICC. Having been under pressure following scores of nine and one in her previous outings, she relished the pressure situation partnering with Annabella Sutherland to sensational effect in recording a comprehensive win for her side.

Phoebe Litchfield confessed that 2023 has been one of the most educational years looking back with its fair amount of difficulties. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, she wondered the fun but quite challenging experience, especially pointing at the unique nature of Indian conditions. Phoebe Litchfield’s overall show in 2023 consisted 87 Test runs at an average of 21.75, 334 ODI runs at an average of 49.14, and 88 T20I runs at an average of 88.
