WTC Squad: Yashasvi Jaiswal To Replace Ruturaj Gaikwad
There goes a saying, “hard work reaps great rewards” and now, the star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is getting rewards for his efforts. When the BCCI announced the list of standby players for the WTC squad, Ruturaj Gaikwad was originally picked up along with Suryakumar Yadav and Mukesh Kumar to visit the UK. However, as per the latest development, Ruturaj Gaikwad will not be traveling with the team because of his personal commitments. This has now opened up doors for Yashasvi Jaiswal.
One-half of the men in blue are already in the UK practicing for the finals. The second half will leave after the IPL finals. Yashasvi Jaiswal will be traveling with the second lot along with Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Mohammad Shami, and others. The tour will be a great learning experience for Yashasvi Jaiswal who has seen extreme ups and downs in his life. An official statement was given by a BCCI official confirming the selection of Jaiswal in the WTC squad.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal will be joining the Indian team,” says BCCI official
“He (Jaiswal) will be joining the Indian team as Gaikwad has informed us that he won’t be able to fly due to his marriage. Gaikwad would be able to join the team post-June 5. (But) Coach Rahul Dravid took a call, asking the selectors to pick a replacement. So, Jaiswal will now fly to London soon,” a BCCI official said. Yashasvi Jaiswal had a dream IPL season scoring 625 runs from 14 innings at an average of 48.07. The young opener reached his maiden IPL century and also scored five half-centuries.
The Rajasthan Royals opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal received compliments from not only his teammates but experts as well. While the possibility of his selection in the longer formats is low, but, as BCCI plans to build a team for T20 World Cup 2024, Yashasvi Jaiswal could receive his T20I call-up soon. Speaking about the WTC squad, India will play without the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul. They will take on Australia in the game beginning on June 7.
