Ind vs Afg Series Likely To Be Called Off
The men in blue have a jam-packed schedule starting after the IPL. They will first play in the WTC Finals, followed by the West Indies series, Asia Cup, and so on. However, amidst all this busy schedule, BCCI is trying to find a small window for the Ind vs Afg series. Earlier this year the BCCI proposed the Ind vs Afg series in the month of June but now, owing to the scheduling issue the possibility of the series looks difficult.
The BCCI had earlier intended to host the three Ind vs Afg ODI series from June 20 to June 30 with the Asia Cup potentially scheduled to follow the away series. Afghanistan only traveled to India once to play the Men in Blue. The previous Ind vs Afg series took the form of a single Test in 2018. At Bangalore’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the team led by Virat Kohli won the match in three days.

A final decision on Ind vs Afg series to be available soon
There are even more difficulties with regard to the Ind vs Afg series. While official clarification has not yet been provided, the broadcast rights for the bilateral series are most likely to be a barrier. The BCCI’s broadcasting rights are soon coming to an end with Disney Hotstar. BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah had earlier stated, “The Media Rights tender will be released as per schedule this year (June-July) and will depend on the Afghanistan tour, but more likely the process will start from the Australia series (in September). The Board will speak to all stakeholders concerned and will come up with an interim decision.”
The decision regarding Asia Cup 2023 as well as the Ind vs Afg series will take place after the IPL finals. The heads of Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and other cricketing boards are currently in India. If things go smoothly, the BCCI may possibly host the Afghanistan one-day international series right before the West Indies tour in July. Reports also suggest that a new younger team will be in consideration for the series with senior players missing out.
