Jasprit Bumrah scripts history with 6-wicket haul vs SA in 2nd Test; breaks multiple records
It was another fascinating morning session in the second test between South Africa and India in Cape Town. After dismissing the hosts in the first session on Day 1, India have done something similar on Day 2 as well. The Proteas started the second day at 62/3. They added another 114 runs to their overnight score and lost their remaining three wickets, courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah.
The ace pacer showed why he is regarded as the best in business and went on to register his 9th test fifer in just 32 test matches. Bumrah took five of the seven wickets fell in the first session on Day 2. He ended up with a bowling figure of 6/61 and finished off the innings.
SA vs IND: Jasprit Bumrah breaks multiple records with his 6fer in Cape Town
It is the same venue where Jasprit Bumrah made his test debut in 2018 and five years later he came back to deliver a brilliant spell. Notably, six out of nine test fifers for Bumrah have came in SENA countries, which is the joint-second most along with Zaheer Khan and Bhagwath Chandrasekhar. Only Kapil Dev (7) has taken more test fifer in SENA.
On the other hand, Bumrah has now taken 38 wickets in South Africa, which is the third most for an Indian, after Javagal Srinath (43) and Anil Kumble (45). Bumrah has taken three fifers in South Africa, which is joint-most for an Indian. Meanwhile, the ace pacer has taken 18 wickets at Newlands in Cape Town, which is the second-most at this venue by a visiting pacer.
He went past Shane Warner, who took 17 wickets here. Only England’s Colin Blythe (25) has taken more wickets here. Team India have got a target of 79 runs to win the second test and level the series 1-1. The lunch has been taken and the Indians are expected to win this match. But noting can be said as this pitch is pretty difficult to bat on. India lost their last six wickets for no run in the first innings.
