IPL 2023: Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action for almost a year now. He has been suffering from a knee injury and has missed a few big tournaments and series so far. Bumrah was not part of the 2023 Asia Cup, the 2023 T20 World Cup, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He will also miss the much-awaited final of the World Test Championship 2023. It will not be wrong to say that India has certainly missed him. However, in the absence of Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj has grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

He has now become India’s leading bowler across all formats. Not just internationally, Siraj has been at his best in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. He has improved his power-play bowling and is among the leading wicket-takers in the competition. It is also a big positive for the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore. As compared to last season, when RCB conceded runs at 8.46 per over and took a wicket after 30 balls, in the power-play, it has come down to 7.3 economy and a strike rate of 14.7.

He also became the No. 1 ranked ODI bowler during this period. Former Indian pacer RP Singh has praised the speedster and said that he will be an important asset for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup and can replace Bumrah in all formats. In a discussion on Jio Cinema, Singh said,

“It is good to see that he has worked on a lot of things this time. Now if you look at the technical bit, he has worked a lot on his wrist position and follow through for which he is getting the ball top bounce better and is also bowling stump-to-stump. Of course, he can be a replacement for Bumrah. In fact, I feel, if his graph continues to increase he can be the next Mohammed Shami.”

India will lock horns with Australia in the WTC final. It will take place between June 7 and 11 at the Kennington Oval in London. India lost the last WTC final against New Zealand, but they would like to get their hands on the championship this time around.
