IPL 2023: Ambati Rayudu, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman, debunked rumors that he had insulted India icon Sunil Gavaskar for his remarks during the match against Rajasthan Royals on social media. For those who are unaware, Gavaskar criticized Rayudu for not fielding against Rajasthan and for his slow start despite being an Impact Player. The 37-year-old has played in eight games and has only amassed 83 runs at a dismal average of 16.60.

In addition, the seasoned hitter for CSK made news when he posted about his poor performance thus far this season. According to recent events, Rayudu has emphasized that his post was not directed at Gavaskar and has refuted that he was making fun of the Indian icon. On April 27, the MS Dhoni-led team suffered their third defeat of the year at the hands of the Rajasthan Royals.

“In life and sport, ups and downs are a constant part. We must be positive and keep working hard, and things will turn around. Results are not always a measure of our effort. So always keep smiling and enjoy the process. What nonsense… my tweet has nothing to do with the great Mr (Sunil) Gavaskar’s comments. His opinions are well respected regarding my fielding. A player doesn’t decide if he wants to field or not.”

Rayudu shared on social media

Gavaskar had already said that Ambati Rayudu‘s dismissal for a second-ball duck against the Rajasthan Royals on Thursday was mostly due to a lack of on-field action. To prove his case, the great batter even compared Rayudu and Prithvi Shaw. Rajasthan displaced CSK from first place and is now leading the IPL 2023 points table with 10 points in 8 games and a respectable Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.939.

Ambati Rayudu As Impact Player

Rajasthan Royals amassed 202 for five at home thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 43-ball 77 and Dhruv Jurel’s explosive cameo. With yet another fifty, Shivam Dube threatened to chase down the mark on his own, but due to a lack of help from the other end, CSK was only able to reach 170 for six. Adam Zampa was RR’s standout bowler, taking three wickets while conceding 22 runs.

In addition, Rayudu clarified that he has no control over being the impact player and that Dhoni and the team management make that decision rather than him. Super Kings, meanwhile, have earned the same number of points in eight games, but their NRR of 0.376 keeps them in fourth position.  On Sunday, April 30, Punjab Kings (PBKS) will take on MS Dhoni and Company at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
