Jason Roy pulls out of IPL 2024; KKR signs No. 2 ranked T20I batter as replacement

IPL 2024: KKR signed Phil Salt as a replacement for Jason Roy for the coming season
The franchise has signed English wicketkeeper Phil Salt as the replacement of Jason Roy for IPL 2024. Salt was part of the Delhi Capitals team in the last edition of the Indian Premier League. However, he was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Entering the auction with a base price of 1.5 crore INR, he couldn’t attract any buyers.
As a result, he went unsold at the auction. It came as a surprise to many because Salt had a brilliant season for DC in 2023. He scored 218 runs in 8 games at an average of 27.25 and a strike rate of 163.92, including two half-centuries. However, just after the auction, Salt smashed two hundreds in the T20 series against West Indies. The wicketkeeper batter is currently the No. 2 ranked T20I batter in the world.
He is very aggressive at the top and likes to play big innings. His current form will certainly boost KKR’s top order. They already have an in-form overseas opener in Rahmanullah Gurbaz at the top. It will make a good pair for them at the top. KKR also signed Mitchell Starc at a price of INR 24.75 crore, which will certainly strengthen the bowling attack. Kolkata will play their opening game on March 23 at Eden Gardens against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
