Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar has revealed news about MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL), putting an end to speculations regarding the former India skipper retiring after the IPL 2024. While it was largely believed that Dhoni would bid adieu to his career after captaining CSK to a fifth title in the IPL 2023, he sprung up another surprise by saying that he would play at least one other season.

Having thanked the fans for their unconditional love even after being banned from the national side and during his comeback, Dhoni said at the presentation ceremony of the IPL 2023 final that it will be easy to retire with a title win, but this one’s for the CSK fan. While many expect Dhoni to bid adieu after IPL 2024, Chahar feels the veteran captain can play a couple of seasons. The pacer underlined recoveries from the knee injury and insisted that the legendary captain still had more to offer the sport.

Deepak Chahar’s Optimism Contrasts Speculations on MS Dhoni’s IPL Retirement After 2024

Speaking to PTI news agency in an interview, Chahar said, “I think he has a lot to give to cricket. He can play for another 2-3 seasons.” Chahar saw Dhoni batting at the nets very well and highlighted the captain’s recovery from injuries that struck him during IPL 2023. Though accepting it is Dhoni’s call over retirement, Chahar found it hard to imagine CSK without the iconic captain, emphasising the long-standing cordial association of fans with Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings.

Both CSK and Dhoni have a chance to script yet another chapter of a fairy tale in the fourth season of their power-packed return, when they bid for an unprecedented sixth title between them. The summit clash with the Chennai side slated for Chennai certainly lends a possible happy ending to the season. However, the BCCI has yet to officially release the complete schedule for IPL 2024, even though reports suggest it could span from March 22 to May 26.
