The IPL 2024 auction was one of the best that has ever taken place so far. This event saw two players go past the figure of 20-crore, which didn’t happen in the past. Royal Challengers Banglaore entered the auction with a purse value of INR 23.75 crore, and they were keen to buy some bowling options for their team. RCB released the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, David Willey, and Wayne Parnell.

Surprisingly, they didn’t bid for anyone of these to get them back. They signed players like Yash Dayal (INR 5 crore), Alzarri Joseph (INR 11.50 crore), Tom Curran (INR 1.50 crore), and Lockie Ferguson (INR 2 crore). They didn’t pick any big names, which has certainly shocked the fans. A number of former cricketers also questioned their approach heading into the auction.

Ex-IND Pacer trolls Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for their signings at the IPL 2024 auction

RCB has been part of the Indian Premier League since the inaugural season. But they have not won a single edition so far. However, with their choice of bowlers, it looks like it will be a similar story in the coming season as well. They couldn’t buy big names that could carry their bowling attack forward. That led them to face a lot of criticism from fans and cricket pundits.

Former Indian pacer Dodda Ganesh also slammed the RCB management and criticized the franchise for making a blunder during the auction. The former pacer took to Twitter (now X) and wrote, “Give the RCB fans half the money from the purse and a freehand at the auction table; I bet you, our fans will select a much-balanced team for all conditions and might as well save some money. Cannot believe that a pro-cricket team can make such elementary mistakes.”

In his second tweet, Ganesh slammed the RCB for spending INR 5 crore on the Indian uncapped pacer Yash Dayal. Rinku Singh took him apart and smashed five consecutive sixes to win the game for the Kolkata Knight Riders. After that, Dayal didn’t play any games for the Gujarat Titans. Only time will tell how RCB will do in the next season.
