IPL 2023: On May 3, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Rajat Patidar provided an update on the injury that he had been dealing with for an extended period of time. Patidar had sustained a heel injury prior to joining RCB’s training camp for IPL 2023, which caused him to withdraw from the tournament. He sought rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Patidar announced on April 4 that he would not be playing in IPL 2023, according to a statement from RCB. In a tweet posted on his official Twitter account, Patidar shared a photo of himself on a hospital bed, revealing that he had undergone successful surgery to address his long-standing Achilles heel injury.

“Just wanted to give a quick update to all my supporters out there. I recently underwent surgery for an injury that has been troubling me for a while now, but I’m happy to say that it went well and I’m on the road to recovery! I can’t wait to get back out there on the field and do what I love the most. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes, they mean the world to me. Back, soon,” captioned Rajat Patidar’s social media post.

During IPL 2021, Patidar made his debut for Bangalore, but after an average performance, the team released him before the IPL 2022 auction, despite supporting him in difficult situations. Patidar remained unsold during the auction, but when Karnataka batter Luvnith Sisodia was ruled out due to injury, he was called up. Patidar made an impact by scoring 333 runs in eight matches at an average of 55.50, including two fifties, and becoming the fifth uncapped player in IPL history to score a century in the Eliminator match of IPL 2022 against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

However, this season, RCB has struggled in the middle order without Patidar’s presence. Despite experimenting with different players, no one has been able to fulfill the responsibility. As a result, the team has been heavily relying on their top batters – Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Glenn Maxwell.

So far in the ongoing season of IPL 2023, RCB has performed reasonably well. They are currently positioned at the fifth spot on the IPL points table with a total of five wins. However, the team’s Net Run Rate (NRR) stands at -0.030, which is an area they would want to improve upon as they progress further in the tournament.
