IPL 2023: Michael Vaughan, the former England captain, believes India should give KL Rahul a chance to start the World Test Championship final against Australia rather than Shubman Gill. The one-off Test between the two cricketing behemoths will occur at the Oval in England beginning June 7. The BCCI has released the 15-man roster for the championship game. Rohit Sharma will captain and start the team’s innings.

According to the present form, Shubman Gill should be chosen as Rohit’s opening partner instead of Rahul, but Vaughan disagrees. Although Shubman is dangerous, the seasoned English cricketer claimed that Rahul has a better batting technique for challenging English conditions. Where the pacers will benefit from the surface.

“KL Rahul Plays The Moving Ball Better”: Michael Vaughan

“The only change they could make in English conditions is that KL Rahul plays the moving ball better than Shubman Gill. Shubman’s a tremendous young player, but you’ve got to win that one game of cricket. Forget history, it’s about picking the best XI to win the World Test Championship. When the ball moves, he takes his hand too much towards the ball. I’m not sure they will do that (replace Shubman with KL Rahul) because I’m not in the selection room.”

Vaughan said on Cricbuzz

He added that India should select its squad with the understanding that it is a one-off game and not contemplate who will start for them in the upcoming series.

Shubman Gill Or KL Rahul

Rahul is going through a hard period and is dealing with his bad form in both red-ball and white-ball cricket, whereas Shubman has been in excellent form across all formats. After the first two Tests against Australia, Rahul, India’s vice-captain for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, was removed from the lineup. During India’s 2018 tour of England, Rahul struck a century against England at the Oval.

Despite smashing 149 runs off 224 balls against the English, he could not stop India from losing by 118 runs. Cricket fans and experts have debated India’s starting XI since the squad was revealed. After former Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh revealed his starting XI, former English captain Michael Vaughan also voiced his opinion. He also said that Shubman Gill should not start for India in the championship match, which sparked an interesting discussion regarding the perfect XI for India for the high-profile match.
