IPL Teams complain to BCCI after a number of English players pulling out of the IPL 2024 at last moment – Reports
There are less than 10 days left from the start of the Indian Premier League 2024, and all teams are preparing for the cash-rich league. All ten teams have set up their practice camp, and players are joining the pre-camp. But with the season coming up, some of the franchises are facing issues related to some players pulling out of the competition.
A player not taking part in the league due to injury is different, but some English players have decided to withdraw at the last moment, citing workload, which has certainly made the IPL teams frustrated. Notably, Ben Stokes, who was part of CSK in 2023, confirmed ahead of the IPL 2024 auction that he wanted a break for the coming T20 World Cup. It gave CSK time to make the arrangements and changes. But some of the English players have left the league at the last moment, which has left the franchises in a tricky situation.
IPL 2024: Franchises are unhappy after English players ditch the IPL
However, after the auction, a number of English players were signed by different teams. But until now, 5–6 players have withdrawn due to workload. Gus Atkinson was one of the first few English players who withdrew in order to manage his workload. However, KKR signed Dusmantha Chameera as his replacement. After him, Mark Wood decided to miss the IPL 2024, and LSG had to sign West Indies’ Shemar Joseph as his replacement.
A few days ago, English opener Jason Roy made the decision due to personal issues. KKR signed Phil Salt in his place for the coming season. And how, Harry Brook, who missed the five-match test series against India due to personal issues, has decided to skip the IPL 2024. With so many English players ditching the tournament, it has led IPL teams to reach up to the BCCI.
As per some media reports, the BCCI officials also had a word with the ECB officials during the fifth test between India and England in Dharamsala regarding this matter. The English Board is keen and wants to give sufficient breaks to their players ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. But only time will tell how this move will work out for them.
