IPL 2023: 3 Players Who Can Play the Role of Jason Holder In LSG Squad
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finished third on the points table, with nine wins from 14 games in their debut season last year. There were plenty of positives to take from the team’s debut season. LSG unearthed some good talent in Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan, besides giving a chance to Deepak Hooda to revive his T20 career.

Furthermore, skipper KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock too were brilliant with the bat. One of the unsung heroes of their success last season was Jason Holder. The Caribbean all-rounder claimed 14 wickets in 12 matches. His services with the bat were hardly needed, but whenever needed he gave a good account of himself. Despite all this, LSG decided to release him ahead of last year’s auction.

The seasoned West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder was roped in by RR as their most expensive purchase at the IPL 2023 auction at INR 5.75 crore. With Holder not there, LSG roped in a couple of quality overseas all-rounders. They will be hoping that their new recruits will do the job that Holder did for them in the last year’s IPL. Whoever replaces Holder, that player must be an all-rounder who can contribute to all departments of the game. Here in this listicle, we look at three players who can fill Holder’s boots in the IPL 2023.

3 Players Who Can Play the Role of Jason Holder In LSG Squad For IPL 2023
3) Daniel Sams
Representing Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022, the Australian all-rounder played 11 matches, bagging 13 wickets. Safe to say, he fared well but this was not good enough for the five-time IPL winners to retain him for the 2023 season. We all know Daniel Sams is a brilliant all-round player. His powerplay and death bowling separates him apart from the rest. Sams can be a good option for LSG as a replacement for Holder going forward in the IPL 2023 season. He can swing the new ball and has got good variations up his sleeves. His contribution with the bat can also be useful in situations when the team needs quick runs lower down the order.
2) Romario Shepherd
The powerpack West Indian all-rounder earned a staggering INR 7.75 crore deal in the mega auction. Shepherd made his IPL debut with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). However, he was only given three games to make an impression and he couldn’t make any substantial contribution with the bat or ball. Thus he was not retained by the Orange Army. An excellent option in the death overs and a brilliant striker of the white ball, Shepherd has got all the attributes to become an integral part of the LSG setup like Holder. Following Holder’s departure from the team, LSG can give Shepherd a long run with the intention of developing him into a long-term replacement.

1) Marcus Stoinis
After being paid INR 6.20 crore, Marcus Stoinis couldn’t play to his reputation and failed to make a big contribution to KL Rahul’s team. The Australian all-rounder could have played a little more part in LSG’s success last year. A batting all-rounder by nature, Stoinis accounted for just four wickets in 11 games and then could only score 156 runs with a modest average of 20. Stoinis failed to perform well for the team and the team couldn’t utilize him well. It goes either way.
He could have been promoted where his expertise with the bat could have come in handy. Needless to say, the 33-year-old will need to improve on these numbers to be anywhere near contention. He is more than capable of being the X-factor for LSG and could well find himself regular in the playing XI if he finds consistency in both facets of his game.
