Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals have faced each other on two occasions in the past with KL Rahul’s Lucknow leading the head-to-head record in IPL matches against the Capitals by 2-0. Last season, the two franchises met twice during the previous season, with LSG emerging victorious on both occasions.

Warner, who will be leading the Capitals for the first time in absence of incumbent skipper Rishabh Pant, will have a huge task in hand to better this record for the Delhi-based team. Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi will be missing the opening game due to national duties. On the other side, Lucknow will be without their star Quinton de Kock, who is currently involved in the ODI series against the Netherlands.

Speaking on the eve of the match, Warner said that Lucknow has a good squad and also acknowledges the threat LSG bowlers will pose. The Capitals skipper advised his players to execute their plans in the game.

“Lucknow have a good squad. They did well last year as well. We know we are going to face some good spinners and they have some good fast bowlers as well. Their Captain KL Rahul is an exciting player. But we just have to execute our plans as best as we can,” said David Warner.

While Warner has been appointed as the captain, all-rounder Axar Patel will support him as the vice-captain of the team. Speaking on Axar’s role as vice-captain of the team, Warner said that Axar will be passing on the information to the bowlers and also will help him deal with the language barrier.

“Axar will have great knowledge about all the players in the squad. He’ll be in control of relaying information to the bowlers and also help me deal with the language barrier,” added Warner.
