IPL 2023: “MS Dhoni Can Play Again Next Year,” Moeen Ali Makes a Stunning Revelation

IPL 2023: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Moeen Ali is of the opinion that his skipper MS Dhoni can return to play for the Chennai-based franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) next year. Moeen’s remark came ahead of his team’s high-octane clash against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium on Monday, April 17.

Even before the start of the sixteenth edition of the IPL, there has been a lot of speculation around MS Dhoni’s retirement from the IPL. Although, Dhoni hasn’t announced when he is going to take the decision, but the rumors suggest that the 2023 season could be the last hurrah of CSK’s very own Thala. 

The CSK skipper has been in sublime form. In four matches of the IPL 2023, Dhoni has scored 58 runs with a best unbeaten of 32. In the last game, the 41-year-old veteran rolled back the years by playing a brilliant knock of unbeaten 32 runs from 17 balls against Rajasthan Royals. The wicket-keeper batter has hit 6 sixes in just 4 matches in IPL 2023 and has scored at a strike rate of over 200 so far.

IPL 2023: Moeen is in Awe of MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni hit an unbeaten 32 from 17 balls, smashing 2 sixes in the final over of the thrilling game against RR but the four-time IPL winners fell short of the 175-run total by just 3 runs. Dhoni’s form has been outstanding and having seen the CSK stalwart from close quarters, Moeen feels that despite being at the fag end of his career, Dhoni has still a lot to offer.

“He could definitely play again next year. The way he’s playing, I don’t think it’ll be his batting that stops him from playing, even if it’s in two, three years’ time. I wasn’t surprised at how he played against Rajasthan. I’ve been watching him in the nets, and he’s been batting unbelievably well. It’s just amazing to see from somebody at that age. It’s not easy when you come in so late – people forget that a lot of the time, but that’s what makes him so good at his role,” Moeen told ESPNcricinfo in an interview
