Mark Wood was taken aback by MS Dhoni’s back-to-back sixes in the CSK vs LSG IPL 2023 game on April 3. Wood has now revealed that he had bowled exactly where he and Lucknow Super Giants‘ skipper KL Rahul had decided but MS Dhoni still found his way to execute those huge maximums.

“I and KL were talking. We were trying to stay calm and trying to work out how to get him out. In my mind, I was not trying to be defensive. I was actually thinking of ways to stop him from scoring runs and get him out. Unfortunately, it cost me 12 runs,” Mark Wood said.

“That second shot in particular was an amazing shot. I bowled it exactly where KL and I decided. Get a bouncer and get it wide so that he has to fetch it if he is to take it. For him to hit it that far was incredible,” the LSG pacer further added about MS Dhoni’s back-to-back sixes.

Chennai Super Kings‘ skipper MS Dhoni came in to bat in the 20th over in the CSK vs LSG match. Mark Wood, who had scalped a 5-wicket haul in the previous game was bowling the final over for LSG. Wood bowled quick widish delivery as MS Dhoni slashed the ball as it went flying over the third-man region for a maximum.

Mark Wood then nailed a perfect bouncer on the next delivery. The bouncer was aimed around the fourth stump in order to prevent MS Dhoni from slogging it. However, the CSK skipper pulled it with perfection as the ball crossed the square leg boundary with a fair margin.

For some like MS Dhoni who retired from international cricket three years back, facing the express pace of Mark Wood upfront was certainly a tedious task. KL Rahul and Mark Wood had a clear-cut plan to use pace with aggressive lines and lengths.
