The second test between India and South Africa got underway at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first. However, that decision looks to have backfired on them. The Indian opening bowlers bowled some brilliant spells and kept hitting the right areas. The South African top order couldn’t resist, and they were 15/4 inside the first ten overs.

Mohammed Siraj was on fire, picking up three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah took the wicket of debutant Tristan Stubbs. Siraj once again dismissed Aiden Markram to provide India with the first breakthrough. Markram got out for just two runs. It was followed by the wicket of stand-in captain Dean Elgar. The southpaw has been a hard batter to dismiss for India, but Siraj bowled a good line, and he was chopped on.

Watch: Mohammed Siraj dismissed Dean Elgar cheaply in first innings

Dean Elgar was the Man of the Match for a superb ton in the first test in Centurion. He was one of the prime reasons that South Africa won the game by an inning and 32 runs. Elgar was the big wicket, as he is the most experienced batter in this South African lineup. Notably, this was also the last game for Elgar, as he has announced his retirement.

Hence, Siraj made sure that Elgar was not going to score more, and he got rid of the dangerous opener. It was the third ball of the 6th over. He bowled a length ball, which took the inside edge of the bat and hit the stumps. Elgar got out for 4 off 15.

Siraj has been superb in the first inning. He has already claimed the 6-wicket haul in just 9 overs. South Africa have lost seven wickets for just 45 runs in 18 overs. The pacer has registered his best bowling figure of 6/15, and still there are three more wickets to go. The way he is bowling at the moment, it looks like he can achieve the best bowling figure by an Indian on South African soil.
