Not just 50 ODI tons; Virat Kohli on verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s another World Cup in 1st semi-final vs NZ at Wankhede Stadium
It will be a huge event when India and New Zealand come up against each other on November 15 at one of the most iconic cricket venues, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This will be the first semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and the second meeting between the two teams in this tournament. Earlier, they faced off in Dharamsala during the group stage, and Virat Kohli took India home.
India won by four wickets, but it was a tight game and went to the final overs. However, these two teams have played a few knockout games in the ICC tournaments, and New Zealand have come out on top. But with the way India have performed so far, it looks like they will feel confident enough to win the game and make it to the final.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Virat Kohli on verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s All-time record
India lost the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, and the top order failed. But the top order will be looking to do well this time around and take the team to the final. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, who is the highest run scorer in the World Cup 2023, will be eyeing an all-time record to conquer. Virat has scored 49 ODI hundreds and equaled Sachin Tendulkar.
He needs one more hundred to become the first batter with 50 ODI tons, and it will be a great stage if he can do it in the semi-final. But it is not the big record he will be eyeing. Virat has a golden opportunity to script history at the Wankhede Stadium. The former Indian captain has scored 594 runs so far at an average of 99. Virat has also scored two hundred and five half-centuries so far.
Notably, Sachin holds the record for most runs in a single edition of the ODI World Cup. He scored 673 runs in the 2003 edition in 11 innings, and Virat Kohli is just 80 more runs away from breaking that record. If Virat can play one more good inning, he can break that all-time record, which no one has broken so far. And if he can slam a hundred in the semi-final, then it will be the icing on the cake.
