WTC Final: After the conclusion of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, the next big assignment for Team India will be the World Test Championship. The IPL final will take place on Sunday, May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Indian players who are part of the playoff stage, including skipper Rohit Sharma, will then fly to the UK for the preparation of the WTC final 2023. The final will take place between June 7 and 11 at the Kennington Oval in London.

This will be the second successive time for Team India to play in the WTC final. They lost to New Zealand in the inaugural edition in 2021. However, Team India will look to win their first WTC title, but it won’t be that easy for them this time around either. India will lock horns with Australia in the final, and it will be in seaming conditions, which are more suitable for the Aussies and more challenging for the Indian team.

WTC Final: Ravi Shastri names the ideal wicketkeeper between Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat for the WTC final
Not just the conditions, but the Indian team will have some other areas to address. They will be missing some of their key players. Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant are not part of the Indian test team due to fitness issues. On top of that, India has another big question ahead of them: who will be the wicketkeeper in the team?

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shatri has picked the keeper between KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan. In the latest episode of the ICC Review, Shastri said that Bharat is a better keeper, but when it comes to better batsmen, Kishan holds an edge. He said,
“If two spinners are playing, then you would want Bharat to play. Now, the fact that Bharat was given a run against Australia, where he played all the Test matches, I think he would be the obvious choice to go with. Batting will also come into play, whether you want Ishan Kishan’s batting to shore up the middle order. That’s another thing you’ll take into perspective.”
On the other hand, veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik also supports Shastri’s pick and said that Bharat will be given a pick. He said that giving the debut cap to Ishan in a big game like the WTC final is too much to ask of him. Bharat played all four tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India and did a decent job with the gloves. On the other hand, Ishan joined the team as KL Rahul’s replacement and was not the first-choice keeper in the team.
