MI vs CSK: MS Dhoni Hit most sixes in 19th and 20th overs
Batting in the IPL is on a rapid rise. Since the reintroduction of the 10-team format, the number of sixes hit has been soaring. In 2022, there were 1062 sixes, with a ratio of 16.20 balls per six (Bp6), and in 2023, the tally rose to 1120 sixes with a Bp6 of 15.33.
Now, 16 matches into the 2024 IPL season, the sixes keep flowing, with 299 already smashed at a staggering rate of one every 12.59 balls. Extrapolating this trend, if the season sees at least 17,000 deliveries like the past two editions, we could witness nearly 1350 sixes in total!
Ms Dhoni Six-Hitting Mastery: Setting Records and Defying Limits
In the recent matches, batsmen have continued their assault on boundaries and records, while a handful of bowlers have achieved remarkable feats. MS Dhoni made history by becoming the first wicketkeeper to reach 300 T20 dismissals during Chennai Super Kings clash against Delhi Capitals. Since his debut in 2006, Dhoni has taken 213 catches and executed 87 stumpings in the format. Additionally, Dhoni also reached the milestone of 7000 T20 runs, becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper and third overall, behind Quinton de Kock and Jos Buttler.
During one of his explosive innings, the 42-year-old Dhoni hammered Anrich Nortje for 20 runs in the final over, including two sixes. As a result, Dhoni achieved another first by becoming the only player to hit 100 sixes in the 19th and 20th overs of an innings, leaving the next-best, Kieron Pollard, trailing at 57!
