He came in the death overs and smashed two sixes and one four for his nine-ball 20. It gave Chennai a grand finish, and they added 10–12 runs more to their total. That gave CSK momentum, which helped them put pressure on DC in the second inning as well.

With his 20-run knock, which was played at a strike rate of 222.22, Dhoni reached 4500 runs for the franchise in the IPL. He reached this figure in the 216th game for the franchise. MSD has completed at an average of 40.54 with 22 half-centuries. Former CSK star Suresh Raina is at the top of the table.

The southpaw retired with 4687 runs for CSK in 176 games in the IPL. Earlier this season, the CSK skipper also completed 5000 runs in the league. Overall, Dhoni has scored 5074 runs in 214 innings at an average and strike rate of 39.33 and 136.07, respectively, including 24 half-centuries. Speaking of the game, DC bowled well in the first inning and restricted Chennai to a par score of 167/8.

Mitchell Marsh took 3/18, while Axar Patel ended up with 2/27. Chasing the target, DC lost skipper David Warner for a two-ball duck. Philip Salt (17) and Mitchell Marsh (5) also fell cheaply. Manish Pandey (27 off 29) and Rilee Rossouw (35 off 37) added a 59-run partnership, but once it was broken, DC lost the plot. They ended at 140/8 and suffered yet another defeat this season.
