Shubman Gill is in the form of his life and there is no stopping him. Even the best of the bowlers are looking helpless in front of him. The kind of touch Shubman Gill is in, it will not only provide Gujarat Titans with confidence ahead of the finals but also to the men in blue. India will be playing the WTC Finals soon and Gill will be opening in the absence of KL Rahul. The young opener has now received applause from former World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev.

Ever since Shubman Gill has showcased his consistency, he has been getting compared with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. However, Kapil Dev is of the opinion that it is too soon to compare the young batter to the big names of the game. Shubman Gill, in the opinion of Kapil Dev, needs to exhibit a little more maturity before being compared to Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, or Virat Kohli. The former Indian captain does think Gill has the potential to ultimately join the greats, though.

“I will like to give him (Shubman Gill) another season (before making big claims),” Kapil Dev

IPL 2023: Kapil Dev Believes Shubman Gill Lacks Maturity

“Sunil Gavaskar came, Sachin Tendulkar came. Then Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli. And now with the kind of batting he is showing, it appears that Shubman Gill is following their footsteps. But I will like to give him another season (before making big claims). He definitely has the talent and ability but he needs more maturity. If he plays another season like this, there is no doubt that he too could be included in the list of great players. Maybe he needs to give one more year. It’s too early (to say),” Kapil Dev said.

Further speaking about Shubman Gill, Kapil Dev added that playing cricket continuously will help him get better with every game. He added that once Gill’s weaknesses and strengths will be exposed, it’ll be crucial to see how the batter will handle the situation. Shubman Gill will have one last opportunity this year in the finals to try and convert his 800+ runs season into a 900 runs season.
