Even on reserve day, rain interrupted the game, and CSK got a stiff target of 171 runs in just 15 overs. But everyone contributed to the win, and Chennai made history. Ravindra Jadeja smashed the last two balls of the game for six and a boundary to take his team home. Earlier, ahead of the game, veteran Indian batter Ambati Rayudu also announced that he would retire after the game.

Rayudu didn’t have a great season, but he hit an 8-ball 19 in the final game to help his team to victory. On the other hand, Jadeja’s last-over cameo helped Chennai win their fifth title. As a result, MS Dhoni decided to call the duo to collect the IPL trophy after the win. BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah handed over the trophy to Jadeja and Rayudu.

Speaking of the game, Gujarat did everything to retain the title. They posted a record total of 214/4 in their first inning. Wriddhiman Saha (54 off 39) and Shubman Gill (39 off 20) gave the team a perfect start. Sai Sudharsan took the inning forward and smashed his highest T20 score. He made 96 off 47 balls, with six maximums and eight boundaries. Hardik Pandya also played an unbeaten cameo of 21 off 12.

In reply, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway added 74 runs in just 6.3 overs. Gaikwad made a 16-ball 26, and Conway got out after scoring 47 off 25. Shivam Dube (32* off 21) and Ajinkya Rahane (27 off 13) also played good cameos to help their team inch closer to the win. After the win, the CSK skipper confirmed that he will look to return in the next edition for the fans.
