3 Players Who can lead Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 if Shreyas Iyer gets unfit
Shreyas Iyer has been a vital player for the Indian team for the past couple of years. He has been a consistent scorer, especially in ODIs and tests. However, one thing that has always troubled him is the back issue. The 29-year-old missed most of the action last year, including the IPL 2023 due to back injury. And it seems like it has come again to haunt him. He has been ruled out of the remaining three tests against England in the ongoing five-match test series.
The series is currently posed evenly at 1-1 with three matches to go. Hence, Iyer is unlikely to take part in the remaining games. But still, there is no confirmation about how serious his injury is. And with the IPL 2024 coming up, it could be a big blow for him and the Kolkata Knight Riders. He missed the last season; what if he misses again or will be available partly? Here we will talk about three players that can captain KKR in the IPL 2024 if Iyer doesn’t make the cut.
Three Players who can lead KKR in the IPL 2024 if Shreyas Iyer gets ruled out
3. Sunil Narine
Veteran West Indian all-rounder Sunil Narine will be one of the front runners. He is currently leading KKR franchises Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ongoing International League T20 2024 in the UAE. He has been part of the KKR since 2012 and has taken most wickets for them in the IPL. Narine has taken 181 wickets in 171 IPL matches. Under him, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders are doing pretty well, so there are chances that he might take up the job of captaincy.
2. Andre Russell
Veteran all-rounder Andre Russell is another key player for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. He has been playing for the franchise since 2014 and is a core player. Russell is available for the whole season and plays every game. With his all-round ability, he can control the game as well. Russell has played 111 IPL matches for KKR and scored 2269 runs at a strike rate of 175.87. He has also taken 97 wickets for them in the tournament.
1. Nitish Rana
In the absence of Shreyas Iyer, it was Nitish Rana who led KKR in the IPL 2023. However, it didn’t work well, and KKR finished 7th on the table with 12 points. But Rana’s performance was pretty good. He scored 413 runs in 14 innings. Overall, he has scored 2157 runs in 84 innings for KKR, with 14 half-centuries. So if Shreyas Iyer is not available, there are chances that Rana will lead KKR once again.
