Nepal Cricketer Subhash Bhandari Convicted for Violating ICC Code of Conduct
During the U19 World Cup match against Pakistan at Buffalo Park in East London on January 24, Nepal U19 off-spinner Subhash Bhandari faced consequences for violating the ICC Code of Conduct. The incident occurred in the 14th over of Pakistan’s innings when Bhandari threw the ball towards batsman Shahzaib Khan, hitting his forearm.
Subhash Bhandari violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses “throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match.” The charges were brought forward by onfield umpires Phil Gillespie and Bongani Jele, along with TV umpire Forster Mutizwa and fourth umpire K.N. Although this was a level one breach, carrying a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum of 50 percent of match fees, Subhash Bhandari received a reprimand and one demerit point added to his disciplinary record. Bhandari accepted responsibility for the offense and acknowledged the sanction imposed by onfield umpire Graeme Labrooy.
In the match, Nepal U19 posted a total of 197 runs while batting first, with opener Bipin Rawal as the highest scorer (39 runs from 68 balls). Both teams aim to maintain their unbeaten streak in the group stage.
